Beautiful Connecting A Single Pole Switch

Connecting a single pole switch. It should have about 1 2 inch of bare wire at the end and should be formed into a hook like loop. Bend the end into a loop using the wire strippers or needle nose pliers. A single pole switch has two brass colored screw terminals that are connected to the hot or power source wires.
Connect the last switch in the usual manner looping the wire around the screw in a clockwise direction. In order for a 3 way switch to function as a single pole the wires need to be connected to the common and one of the traveler terminals. 3 way switches can be converted to single pole in several configurations.
It has only one pole which is another way of saying it has a single pair of connection terminals. This will ensure that the connection is good and tight. If you examine any single pole light switch your house you ll see its two brass terminals and the ground screw.
The live hot wire which is usually black connects to one terminal the outgoing hot wire connects to the other one and when the switch is off the circuit is broken. When the switch is closed the two terminals are connected and current flows between them. When the switch is opened the terminals are not connected so current does not flow. To connect the switches simply score the wire with your wire stripper and push the insulation to expose about 3 4 in.
One brass terminal is designated for the incoming hot wire from the power source and the other is for the outgoing hot wire to the fixture. It will not work if the wires are connected to the two traveler terminals. Then strip about 3 4 inch of insulation using wire strippers.
