Favorite Multiple Light Switches On One Circuit
Basically a series of lights 2 way and 3 way.
Multiple light switches on one circuit. Some lights have 3 way switches and some done but all need to work on one circuit. I have no idea what wires need to go to what place at this point. Twist a wire cap onto the end of the pigtail.
You can get how to books on this and other home repair subjects. National code says a maximum of 8 openings per circuit. In building wiring multiway switching is the interconnection of two or more electrical switches to control an electrical load from more than one location.
To add outlets and lights you ll need a junction box and wire nuts. The other way to wire multiple lights to one switch is to connect all of them directly to the switch in a home run configuration. I am attaching a pic of a basic layout.
Two light switches connected to the same power source can control a single. I have one circuit that i have different lights running on different circuits. The power source is typically the building s main electrical panel.
The second option allows you to easily disconnect fixtures you no longer want to use but it becomes cumbersome when more than two fixtures are involved. The hot and neutral terminals on each fixture are spliced with a pigtail to the circuit wires which then continue on to the next light. This diagram illustrates wiring for one switch to control 2 or more lights.
You can do this light switch wiring in one of two ways. A single circuit wire can split to power several loads including receptacles although mixing receptacles and lights on a single circuit is a practice that s going out of style. Use the other 6 inch wire to connect to the top terminal of the second switch if it is mounted in the same electrical box.
