Brilliant Wiring A Switch Leg
It is the wire that comes off of the bottom terminal of a switch and when the switch is turned on becomes hot.

Notice that these outlets have the tab removed from the hot side or brass side of the outlet which allows the top half of the plug to be controlled only from the switch while the bottom end of the outlet remains hot all the time. This is common when multiple switches in one wiring box control different outlets on the same branch circuit.
